It hasn't always been the most sought-after city car, but this iteration of the Micra is something actually that you could genuinely recommend, representing a big leap forward from its predecessors. Bursting onto the scene in 2017, it was winner of 2019's New Car of the Year award and its revised interior and stylish exterior certainly does a lot to commend it. Safety features are also in abundance, giving you lane departure warning, lane keep assist and auto emergency braking with pedestrian detection. Nice! Yet for all its glory, the Micra's competitors come fast and thick in the form of fellow Japanese stalwarts like the Suzuki Swift and the Hyundai i20.
Under the bonnet is a 1.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine, delivering either 71, 90 or 100PS. The top speed is 93mph and 0-60mph is achievable in 15 seconds. It's nothing special and is obviously what you'd expect for a car like this, but boot space does stand at 300-litres – one of the largest in the supermini class.
